adjustment disorder, defined:
Emotional or behavioral symptoms like depression, anxiety, sleeping problems, and inappropriate conduct that develop in response to an identifiable stress event but are more intense than one would expect from such a stressor. Children with adjustment disorders may experience significant trouble in school and in social situations.
adjustment disorder, as it might be used:
The court held that term 'severe mental disorder' does not include an adjustment disorder, epilepsy, mental retardation or other developmental disabilities, or addiction to or abuse of intoxicating substances."
