injunction


injunction, defined:

an order of the court that either requires or bars some action when there is no other legal remedy. The term, injunction, denotes the courts authority to control the people's actions in the interest of justice.

injunction, as it might be used:

An injunction may only be granted by the court with jurisdiction.

An example of injunction:

In the town where Fergus and Fiona live, an unscrupulous businessperson opens a small shop marketing herbal supplements that have the appearance of illicit street drugs. These look-alikes are marketed as having effects similar to drugs they resembled. Several children become ill as a result. The parents of the town file a suit seeking an injunction against the business to prevent it from marketing or selling these products.
