a remedy provided by a court according to the law. The term, legal remedy, is most commonly taken to mean money awards for civil wrongs. The legal novice would do well to understand the distinction between a legal remedy and an equitable remedy though. A legal remedy is provided for by law; whereas, an equitable remedy is awarded in the interest of justice when no legal remedy is available.

An example of legal remedy:
Driving to her office one morning, Fiona is struck from the side by another car that failed to stop at a red light. In order to recover her damages, Fiona must seek a legal remedy through the courts.
