a person who either buys or sells goods for profit or represents him- or herself as having special knowledge about a specific product. Under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), the term, merchant, denotes a legal status with significant implications. The UCC provides a separate set of rules for the formation and resolution of contracts for merchants than those used by non-merchants.
