physical duress, defined:

the use of physical threats as a means of forcing assent. The issue of physical duress frequently occurs in matters of contracts and property transfers. Generally, if physical duress can be shown, the contract or property transfer will be found void. In the case of contracts, physical duress proves a lack of intent which is required for a valid contract.
