promisor

promisor, defined:

the person or party who gives a promise in a contract. The term, promisor, is a status designation often used when analyzing the actual performance of contractual terms. Compare promisor to promisee who is the person or party to whom a promise is made. For contracts in which one party gives a promise in exchange for a promise given by another party (a bilateral contract) each party is at one time a promisor and a promisee, depending upon which contractual term is being discussed.

promisor, as it might be used:

The performance of the promisor will satisfy his obligation to the promisee.

An example of promisor:

Fiona's niece, Sheila, is to be married. Sheila contracts with a caterer to provide food service for her wedding reception. The two parties sign a contract detailing the specifics. The caterer, as the promisor, agrees to serve a specific menu at the event on a specific date and time. Sheila in turn, as the promisor, agrees to pay the caterer a set fee upon.
