quid pro quoquid pro quo, defined:
(from Latin. translates to something for something) an exchange of consideration. While the term, quid pro quo is often used in reference to closed-door, political deals, there is really nothing ominous in the term itself. It simply refers to an agreement where one thing is exchanged for another.
quid pro quo, as it might be used:
The County Workers' Association argued that binding arbitration is a quid pro quo for the lack of a right to strike.
An example of quid pro quo:
While Fergus is a huge hockey fan, his wife, Fiona, is bored by the sport. On the other hand Fergus detests the true-crime dramas that provide a staple of Fiona's existence. The couple strikes a bargain, quid pro quo: Fergus will limit his time watching hockey if Fiona will do the same with true-crime drama.
